CUT TO THE CHASE:
My composing rate for studio budgeted films starts at $150 - $250 per minute for a standard music score for a 60 - 90-minute film. I am currently unsigned (at the moment) so these rates are slightly below industry levels.
[These rates are not inclusive of hiring a live orchestra if one is required. Those fees are separate and I would advise using a known booking agency to provide you with those services. If that is not the case I can provide you with a top tier sampled orchestral library in which case the rate remains the same.]
My composing rate for Independent films starts at $75 - $125 per minute for a standard music score for a 10 - 90-minute film. As you can see this covers short films as well!
NOTE: Composing for me is not always about the money. Much of the time it's about developing long-term relationships, understanding the project, and learning about the director's musical taste and cinematic vision. I want to understand your ideas for your work to make sure I can deliver what you want and need. That being said, I'm always open to talk. I'm flexible and reasonable to work with and don't mind negotiating if I believe in the project.
If this sounds like someone you'd like to consider working with, please reach out and make contact.
Per-minute = per minute of music. Not the length of the film.
(i.e. A 90-minute indie project might have 50 minutes of music or less. The cost might range from $3750 - $6250) I hope this is helpful.
